New Beginnings

My weight loss efforts have been perpetually clinging to a buoy in the middle of the ocean for the past year (not sinking but without a rescue boat in sight), but the rest of my life has seen quite a bit of change. Some are seemingly small, but have a lot of significance, like me finally getting a new mattress. My old one could have a blog of its own based on the stories it has.

Out with the old…

…in with the new.

The mattress had to be firm enough to accommodate me, Bowie, Siouxsie…and Crack. He has officially moved in, and I am happily giving up my much cherished private space to share it with him. Nothing has changed too much since he’s been practically living with me since January anyway, but changing his address on his ID and with the post office makes it official I guess.

My house is pretty big, and we rarely have the same day off, so the risk of overexposure to each other is slim. Also, he owns like 5 shirts and 3 pairs of pants so I don’t have to give up TOO much closet space. We were able to move everything out of his apartment in the back of my car.

Looooots of memories over the past 2½ years in this little studio apartment in Hollywood.

Even though Crack will always be thin (genetics…the bastard), I like that he still cares about eating wholesome, natural foods, and staying active and fit. A lot of times it’s him forcing me to eat my vegetables while I pout like a child. That makes it a lot easier for us to cook and plan meals together. I even told him that he’s going to be part of the future food reviews and experiments that I’ll be writing about, and will probably post his take on the blog (after I make it a bit G-rated).

The dogs absolutely adore him; Siouxsie probably likes him more than she likes me, and he feels the same way about them. We come from very different backgrounds and have traveled very different paths through life to get to where we are now, but as he said the other night, “it’s all coming together.” We make a good team.

My guy also has those ‘skinny genetics’ but is a total fanatic about what he eats. He loves to cook – I am so lucky – and makes stuff that tastes amazing but is also healthy. I read all the labels for ingredients now – and if sugar or salt is near the top of the list – back on the shelf it goes.
